    MELISSA MESA

Ms. Mesa was born and raised in Miami, FL. She graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes Academy, with honors. She attended the University of Miami and, after only 3 years, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Philosophy and minors in Political Science and Spanish. She attended the University of Miami School of Law where she obtained her Juris Doctor.  

 

While in law school, Ms. Mesa was a judicial intern for the Honorable Shelby Highsmith in the Southern District of Florida. As an intern she gained invaluable experience researching and writing on issues such as property damage and immigration. She has also interned for Judge Rosinek, Judge Bach and Judge Areces in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida. While in law school, Ms. Mesa was also a law clerk at Telemundo/NBC Universal and worked at Kenny Nachwalter, P.A. She also completed the Litigation Skills Program offered by the University of Miami and was a certified legal intern at the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office.

 

 

Before joining ACOSTA, Ms. Mesa had experience in the field of workers’ compensation and personal injury and was able to hone in on her analytical and litigation skills. She handled a heavy caseload while representing both Claimants as well as Employers/Carriers. She handled state and private mediations, hearings, discovery, and took expert witness depositions. She negotiated with opposing counsel on a daily basis and was able to reach a satisfactory settlement in almost all her cases. She participated in the Trial Advocacy Program offered by the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Florida Bar.  

 

Ms. Mesa is a member of the Florida Bar, the American Bar Association, the Young Lawyers Division and the Workers’ Compensation section of the Florida Bar. She is fluent in Spanish. She currently concentrates her practice in the field of workers’ compensation.
