Felipe L. Mejia Mr. Mejia was born in Pereira, Colombia and immediately thereafter moved to Los Angeles, CA until he was 10 when his family moved to Miami. He graduated with High Honors from the University of Florida with a major in history and a minor in British Literature. While at Florida, Mr. Mejia was a member of the History Honor Society, was awarded the OASIS achievement award for minority students three times, and won an award for best thesis in his junior class. His junior and senior thesis (for which he was granted high honors) were based on the Spanish colonial history of Florida.
Upon graduation, he immediately moved to Beijing, China where he lived two-and-a-half years. He studied Mandarin Chinese at Beijing Foreign Studies University and became as fluent as one can get in two and a half years. After leaving China because of the SARS epidemic, Mr. Mejia moved to France. Apart from studying the language, he enjoyed all that le midi has to offer.
Eager to begin his career in law, Mr. Mejia enrolled at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. While in law school, Mr. Mejia was a senior articles editor of the Hastings Business Law Journal and (as most of his fellow classmates found strange) absolutely loved law school. Apart from his studies, he worked for the county counsel of Santa Cruz, was a summer intern for one of the biggest firms in California, clerked for the Honorable Charles Breyer at the Northern District of California, and worked at the United States Attorney’s office tax division.
After graduating Cum Laude, Mr. Mejia missed his family and decided to move back to Miami to begin his legal career. He was invited to join ACOSTA as an associate in the Workers Compensation department. Mr. Mejia is admitted to the Florida bar, and is awaiting admittance to the California bar. He is fluent in Spanish and his French and Mandarin Chinese are conversational.
